Ellen Malcolmson

BA, ACC/CEC, Certified Team Coach

Ellen’s coaching practice is built on her extensive senior leadership experience and her passion for partnering with her clients to build their confidence in their own unique strengths and capabilities. Ellen coaches from a truly unique perspective; she brings an understanding of the corporate world from her experience as a senior executive in one of Canada’s largest companies, an appreciation for the challenges of both operating and governing in the public sector from her work as both CEO and Board Chair at a large Ontario hospital, and the delicate balancing of multiple stakeholders required to be a successful CEO in the not for profit world.

In 2010, Ellen made the transition from operational leadership to strategic consulting and executive coaching. She is building her practice and has completed projects that include interim leadership, operational reviews, development & delivery of training and executive coaching of both individuals and teams.

Ellen believes that leaders are at their best when they have confidence in their own capabilities and strengths; her ability to use appreciative inquiry allows her to “hold up the mirror” to leaders, and enables them to leverage their values and step more fully into their leadership. Ellen is at her best when she is coaching leaders who are leading teams through periods of transition; changes in role, changes in environment or changes in accountability.

As an operational leader, Ellen‘s experience includes a variety of roles including;

  • Interim CEO of St. Joseph’s Health Centre
  • President & CEO of the Canadian Diabetes Association
  • President & CEO of Expertech Network Installation Inc.
  • Senior Vice President Customer Experience & Operations at Bell

Ellen is committed to community leadership and has donated her time and experience to various governance roles in the not for profit and public sectors. She is currently the Chair of the Board of Directors of St. Joseph’s Health Centre. She previously served as Chair of the hospital’s Quality Committee, Chair of the Compensation Committee and Vice Chair of the Board. Ellen has also served as the board chair of Women’s Habitat of Etobicoke, and on the board of the Ontario Hospital Association, GO Transit, McMaster University, the Shaw Festival and Junior Achievement.

Ellen’s commitments to community work were recognized formally in 2004, when she was inducted into McMaster University’s Alumni Hall of Fame. Ellen has also been the keynote speaker for the Women of Influence speaker series on several occasions.
